Central, Main & Bare Hill Water Main

E-mail Print PDF

Originally this project started a few years ago as the replacement of the water main on Central Street from Main Street to Summer Street following a series of severe water main breaks.  After another series of breaks on Main Street the project was expanded to include replacement of a pipe on Main Street from Washington Street to Ipswich Road.  This is the last piece of original water main in the area which was installed in 1949.  Installation of a new main on Bare Hill Road, from Haverhill Road to Parsonage Lane, was also added to improve water quality on Parsonage Lane, Bare Hill Road, Comstock Lane and Brady Lane.  The pipe on Bare Hill Road provides a third avenue for water to get from our pump stations to the water storage tanks and downtown area.

Design work for the project began in December 2011 and we hope to obtain construction funding at the May 2012 Town Meeting.

Ipswich Road Project

New water mains, hydrants and water services were installed along Ipswich Road, Pine Street and portions of Averill Street, Haverill Road, Mansion Drive, North Street and Woodside Road.  The project was funded by water revenues and was done as part of a Massachusetts Department of Transportation road and drainge project.  The water main work replaced over 7,000 feet of transite pipe that was installed in 1949 when the Town's water system was created.

Water Meter Replacement Project

E-mail Print PDF

Water meters are used to track how much water is withdrawn at our sources and how much is used by customers connected to the distribution system.  Every connection in Topsfield is metered - even those used by the Water Department.

During the winter of 2006, a three-year meter replacement project began in which all our customer's meters were to be replaced with new radio read meters.  Four hundred fifty thousand dollars ($450,000) was appropriated over the three year period to purchase and install the new meter reading system.  The work was conducted by Water Department employees and outside vendors.
