Due to declining water quality, a Request for Proposals for a water treatment plant feasibility study was issued with proposals being due on March 19, 2012. The scope of work includes examination of recent water quality data, existing and proposed drinking water regulations and projected water demands. The study will establish water quality goals, evaluate available water treatment processes, determine site requirements and provide cost estimates for the design, pilot testing, construction and operation of a water treatment plant as well as investigate purchasing water from another city, town or the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.
March 23, 2012 Update: Five proposals were received and are being reviewed and ranked by a committee comprised of a Water Commissioner, the Town Administrator and the Water Superintendent.
