Voluntary outdoor water use restrictions are now in effect. The mandatory restrictions were removed because Ipswich River stream flow has been above 52.5 cubic feet per second (cfs) for 10 consecutive days. Our withdrawal permit requires mandatory restrictions if flow drops below 52.5 cfs for three days and allows the restrictions to be relaxed if above 52.5 cfs for 10 days. A few more days of rain are predicted and stream flow will continue to increase. Based on current flows, mandatory restrictions will not be required for several weeks. Until then all town residents are asked to curtail nonessential outdoor water use between 9 A.M. and 5 P.M. each day. In addition to curtailing outdoor use the Water Department encourages the following conservation measures:
The Water Department has several guide books that are available to residents. Please call us at (978) 887-1518 for more information or if you have any questions.

| Street Sweeping Announcement |
Due to the fiscal constraints of the Town Budget and the continuing economic downturn, the Town of Topsfield eliminated street sweeping from the Highway Department budget for this fiscal year. Therefore there will be no annual street sweeping program this year. This was an extremely difficult decision for the Board of Road Commissioners who were faced with making difficult budget decisions in order to reduce expenditures by more than 10% last year during the budget process. Questions and comments can be directed to Highway Supt. David Bond at dbond@topsfieldpublicworks.org |
