Ipswich River
The Town of Topsfield is completely contained in the Ipswich River Basin. All of the Town's water withdrawals, both public and private, have an effect on water levels in the Ipswich River. There many resources available on the web from the Ipswich River Watershed Association and the United States Geological Survey that provide information and track water levels.
Stream flow is measured at the United States Geological Survey's gauge station located just downstream of the dam near Foote Brothers Canoe Rental in Ipswich and at a station in South Middleton. The sequestrant system is operating at the recommended dose and there are signs that water quality is improving. A full evaluation of the system will have to wait until fall 2012 due to seasonal fluctuations in manganese levels in the source water and water demands.
