Interruptions Water Main Break 8/5
The water main in front of 71 High Street ruptured at 5:20 PM today. The eight inch main is part of the original water system installed in 1949. The flow from the break exceeded 3,000 gallons per minute which discolored water in the downtown and surrounding areas. High Street residents between Towne Lane and Route 1 and Summer Street residents between Central Street and High Street will be without water while the main is repaired. We anticipate turning the water back on by midnight.

The sequestrant system is operating at the recommended dose and there are signs that water quality is improving. A full evaluation of the system will have to wait until fall 2012 due to seasonal fluctuations in manganese levels in the source water and water demands.
